May 2019

Dear families,

It is exciting to see our 5th graders getting ready to go to the Middle School.   They are so ready for this next big milestone.  Continue to be actively involved in your student’s school experience.

As we begin to prepare for the upcoming year, please know that we do not take teacher requests for your child.  We do want to find the best learning environment for your child and so we encourage conversations about what is the best learning environment for your student.   We have a form available that you can fill out to let us know more specifics about your child’s learning needs.  We try very hard to create balanced classrooms so that your child has the best opportunities possible.

Traditionally, we do not announce class lists before the end of the year.  We will have Back to School afternoon on Friday, August 9, from 3-5 pm and your child will receive their class assignment then.  You will receive their registration packet in the mail over the summer, so if your address has changed, please let the office know before school ends.  During the summer, each family will be getting a notice in the mail from the Food Service Department about how to go on-line and apply for Free/Reduced lunch.

It continues to be a pleasure to serve you.

I hope you have a great summer!

Enjoy!

Vernann Raney

Parents, we need your help to ensure that Swim Day goes smoothly.  We are in need of volunteers to not only be in the pool with the kids but to be around the pool to supervise them as well.  We will be sending home a flyer soon asking for parent volunteers to help swim day go smoothly.

Lost & Found

Just a reminder that our lost and found is starting to grow and will disappear on May 30th .

Please take the time to look through the lost and found before this time and retrieve what is yours.  Please label your child’s clothing with their name so we can get things back to them easier.

From The Health Office

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of another great school year! We want to send you off on vacation with a few reminders!

All medications that have been brought to school throughout the year MUST be picked up by May 30, 2019 at 3pm. We DO NOT keep medications of any kind over the summer months and these will be destroyed at 3pm that day. This includes inhalers, cough drops, liquid medications, lotions, eye drops etc.

Summer is a great time to get those missing immunizations done and 5th graders going into 6th grade need to get a Tdap booster before school in the fall. Please remember to bring a copy of new shots to the school when you register your children in the fall. Just a reminder, if your child has a personal or religious exemption for immunizations required by Colorado State Law, a new exemption will need to be completed after July 1, 2019. A completed form is now required yearly. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact the health office or go online at: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/vaccine-exemptions

Summer welcomes warm days and outside fun, however, the better we can utilize sunscreen the less likely skin damage will be later in life. Please apply this frequently while outside and use a high SPF factor. Warmer weather and more physical activity can lead to headaches, constipation, and dehydration. We encourage all students to drink water during the day. Dehydration can also turn to heat stoke very quickly. Remember to take breaks in the shade or inside and avoid the heat of the day if possible. Please feel free to contact the Health Office with any questions or concerns at 254-7910, option 3.

New Office Hours for Summer

The office will have new hours in the summer beginning May 31st.  The office will be open from 8-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The office will close for the summer on Wednesday, June 13th and reopen for the 2019/20 school year on July 29th.

Report Cards

Report Cards will be mailed home the beginning of June. Please make sure the office has your correct mailing address.  Registration forms will be on-line this year.   Please set up a Parent/Vue account on a computer.  If you do not have a computer, the office will provide you with one.  The office will reopen on July 29th

Free or Reduced Lunch

For all students enrolled at Dos Rios Elementary, breakfast will be available to them at no charge.  An application for meal benefits will need to be submitted in order to determine your student’s eligibility for free or reduced price lunch benefits. Applications may be completed online at:  www.applyforlunch.com or at the Nutrition Services office located at 2280 East Main Street or at your school prior to the first day of school (August 12, 2019).  Completing your application as soon as possible will ensure your child’s eligibility is effective on the first day of school.

Kindergarten Registration

If your child is 5  years old on or before July 15th, 2019, he/she is eligible for Kindergarten for the 2019/20 school year.  Kindergarten registrations are on-line through the District 51 website or ParentVue throughout the summer.  Starting July 29th,  you will need to provide two proofs of addresses, birth certificate and immunizations, only after you have done the online registration.
